Possibilities of retro-digitalized German-Serbian Mining Dictionary

U radu će biti prikazan opis procesa retrodigitalizacije dvojezičnog Nemačko-srpskog rudarskog rečnika iz 1923. godine čiji je autor rudarski inženjer Dragutin Stepanović (Степановић, 1923). Ovaj rečnik je zasnovan na skoro 4 000 leksičkih zapisa koji su prevodilački ekvivalenti ili uputnice. Umesto predgovora autor daje uvid u svoje pismo upućeno “Ministru šuma i rudnika” u kome piše o nameri da zabeleži reči koje se koriste u narodu kako bi izbegao upotrebu nemačkih reči. Iako broj odrednica nije toliko veliki, rečnik može biti vredan izvor za različite istraživačke svrhe (istoriju rudarstva, terminologiju itd.). Rečnik će biti anotiran u skladu sa najnovijim TEI smernicama tokom radionice Lexical Data Masterclass 2018. Biće izloženi neki od problema prilikom upotrebe programa GROBID-Dictionaries (Khemakhem et al., 2018) nastali usled neujednačene strukture rečničkih zapisa. U drugom delu rada biće analizirana upotreba pojedinih pronađenih srpskih termina u odnosu na definicije i upotrebu u drugim rečnicima i resursima srpskog jezika.

In this paper is going to be described the process for retro-digitalization of bilingual dictionary concerning domain of mining. That is German-Serbian Mining Dictionary (Nemačko-srpski rudarski rečnik) by a mining engineer Dragutin Stepanović, published in 1923 (Степановић, 1923). The dictionary consists of almost 4 000 lexical entries that are translational equivalents or self-references. Instead of preface the author gives insight in his letter addressed to “Minister of Forests and Mines“. He wrote about his intention to note down Serbian words used by „ordinary people“ in order to avoid usage of German words. Although the number of headwords is not so large, the dictionary can be a valuable resource for potentially many different research purposes (mining history, terminology etc.). The dictionary is going to be encoded in accordance to TEI guidelines during the workshop Lexical Data Masterclass 2018. Authors will show some of the issues they faced during the GROBID-Dictionaries processing (Khemakhem et al., 2018). Those issues are mainly consequence of unstructured lexical entries. In the second part of the paper specific Serbian terms is going to be analyzed in comparison to definitions and usage in other Serbian dictionaries and resources.
