Present Situation and Alternative Water Supply Solutions for Northern Vojvodina (Serbia)
The northern part of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina is situated in the central and southeastern sectors of the Pannonian Basin. Drinking water supply is provided by groundwater abstraction from depths of 60 to 200 m. The quality of that water is poor, especially due to high concentrations of arsenic which most water supply systems do not remove. Current planning documents call for the construction of large regional water supply schemes on the banks of the Danube and Tisa ...Bojan Hajdin, Vesna Ristić-Vakanjac, Dušan Polomčić. Hypogene karst associated with igneous intrusions and its influence on the subsequent karst evolution in high mountains (Central Andes, Peru)
Carbonate rocks of Cretaceous age are wide spread in the Peruvian Andes. The studied area in the eastern part of the Cordillera Occidental, near a large igneous intrusion and a skarn deposit, exemplifies polygenetic and multi-phase karst development. Hypogene karstification is related to a hydrothermal activity associated with a magmatic event at ca. 11-9.7 Ma responsible for the emplacement of the nearby intrusion and related alteration of the carbonate rocks. It has resulted in deep-rooted, laterally isolated stair-case-rising shaft ...Alexander B. Klimchouk, Saša Milanović, Cristian Bittencourt. A necessary and sufficient condition for an algebraic integer to be a Salem number
Dragan Stankov (2019)We present a necessary and sufficient condition for a root greater than unity of a monic reciprocal polynomial of an even degree at least four, with integer coefficients, to be a Salem number. This condition requires that the minimal polynomial of some power of the algebraic integer has a linear coefficient that is relatively large. We also determine the probability that an arbitrary power of a Salem number, of certain small degrees, satisfies this condition.Algebraic integer, the house of algebraic integer, maximal modulus, reciprocal polynomial, primitive polynomial, Schinzel-Zassenhaus conjecture, Mahler measure, method of least squares, cyclotomic polynomialsDragan Stankov. Influence of DEM resolution on numerical modelling of debris flows in RAMMS - Selanac case study
Debris flows induced by intensive rainfall represent very hazardous phenomena in many parts of the World. Methods for prediction of runout distance of flow like mass movements are different and depending on the input data, rheology, and available or appropriate numerical solution. However, sometimes it is not easy to obtain pre event and post event high-resolution data in the rural or mountainous area. Thus, the topology of terrain is the most important input parameter for the every real case ...... snow avalanches (Bartelt, 2015; Christen et al., 2007; 2010a; 2010b). Nevertheless, it is also suitable for modelling of other processes such as rock avalanches and debris flows (Schraml, 2015; Sosio, 2007; Frank, 2017). As input, three quantities must be specified to perform a numerical calculation: ...

Age And Mode of the Middle Miocene Marine Flooding of the Pannonian Basin—Constraints from Central Serbia
Oleg Mandic, Ljupko Rundić, Stjepan Ćorić, Ðurðica Pezelj, Dörte Theobalt, Karin Sant, Wout Krijgsman (2019)The timing and mode of the marine flooding of the southern margin of the Pannonian basin in SE Europe is still a matter of debate. In central Serbia, integrated bio-magnetostratigraphic data and quantified high-resolution records are completely missing. Here, we provide paleoenvironmental and paleoecological constraints from the Slanci section located near Belgrade that has an excellent preservation of micro-fauna and flora, i.e., planktonic and benthic foraminifera and calcareous nannoplankton. Application of MCDA in the determination of optimal block size for open-pit modelling and mine planning
The process of creating a geological block model as the basis for a further detailed design and planning of mining operations is a very responsible task. Against the tide: southeast to northwest shelf-edge progradation in the southeastern margin of Lake Pannon, Banat (Serbia and Romania)
In the late Neogene, the Pannonian Basin in Central Europe was filled with sediments when rivers from the Alps and Carpathians shed their sediment load into Lake Pannon. The most powerful source-to-sink system was that of the paleo-Danube, transporting sediments from the NW as far as the southeastern part of the lake. In the southeastern margin of the basin, however, local sedimentary systems worked in the opposite direction, against the “tide” of the prevailing N to S sediment transport. ...Dejan Radivojević, Miloš Radonjić, Lajos Tamás Katona, Imre Magyar. Integrated energy planning approach for accelerating energy transition of households
The success of energy transition planning depends on several influential and variable factors that need to be considered and tracked in modeling to support policymakers. Expert-based energy models are mainly developed following the assumptions of experts and, in most cases, a limited number of stakeholders. This top-down modeling approach will provide satisfactory results in centrally managed energy sectors (electricity generation and distribution, district heating, etc.), where further decisions could be projected relatively precisely.
