Karst groundwater quantity assessment and sustainability: the approach appropriate for river basin management plans
Veljko Marinović, Zoran Stevanović (2019)As a result of the fact that karstified rocks can accumulate large amounts of high-quality groundwater, karst aquifer is considered, throughout the world, one of the most important types of aquifers. Due to their high permeability, but also vulnerability to pollution, these precious groundwater resources need to be properly evaluated and protected. Taking into account heterogeneity and complexity of the karst environment, it is difficult to propose a uniform algorithm for managing karst groundwater, which causes the necessity to ...Upravljanje karstnim podzemnim vodama, Pritisci na kvantitet voda, Plan upravljanja vodnim resursima, Bosna i Hercegovina, SrbijaVeljko Marinović, Zoran Stevanović. Analysis of the correlation between modified secondary and primary compression index on the example of old municipal waste in Serbia
The paper presents the results related to the determination of the index of primary and maximum and minimum indices of secondary compression, i.e. modified primary and secondary compression indices (Cc, Cc', C'min, C'max), obtained by laboratory testing of artificially prepared municipal waste samples (three series of 9 samples in total) in an oedometer apparatus with a diameter of 20 cm. Ecological status of the Lim river alluvium in Serbia
Amel Kurbegović, Boris Vakanjac, Vesna Ristić Vakanjac, Mirjana Bartula, Zorana Naunović, Nikola Milovanović, Jovan Kovačević (2022)Three countries share the catchment of the Lim River and they have been engaged in an eco-logical struggle for years, to conserve the river, its tributaries, and biodiversity. Honoring international conventions and declarations, along with active involvement of the civil society and support of Eu-ropean Union agencies, major efforts are being made to draw attention to the degradation of nature, especially water, which is essential for life on the planet Earth. Considering that natural resources are limited and that ...Amel Kurbegović, Boris Vakanjac, Vesna Ristić Vakanjac, Mirjana Bartula, Zorana Naunović, Nikola Milovanović, Jovan Kovačević. CC-PESTO: a novel GIS-based method for assessing the vulnerability of karst groundwater resources to the effects of climate change
The new GIS-based CC-PESTO method is shown to successfully assess and map the vulnerability/resilience of karst aquifers to effects of climate change. Karst aquifers were chosen due to their importance at the global level and widespread utilisation in potable water supply and irrigation, but also because of their hydrogeological complexity. The method was developed to assess the intrinsic vulnerability of aquifers, without considering the direct impact of variable climate factors, but considering the adaptive capacity of aquifers in response ...Zoran Stevanović, Veljko Marinović, Jelena Krstajić. Šeklić, Snežana Sretenović, Marija Ilić, Jovana Bogojeski (2023)Cancer remains one of the world's deadliest diseases, claiming many lives each day. Transition metal complexes are leading candidates in developing anticancer agens with cisplatin used in chemotherapy worldwide. Copper, an endogenous metal in the human body, is especially attractive because of its typical redox biological activities and a relatively strong affinity to nucleobases. Geothermal potential, chemical characteristic and utilization of groundwater in Serbia
To collect and unify data about all geothermal resources in Serbia, a database was formed. The database allows us to perceive the geothermal resources of Serbia and their potential for utilization. Based on the data available in the geothermal database, the estimated temperatures of reservoirs, heat power, and geothermal energy utilization were calculated. The database contains 293 geothermal records (springs, boreholes) registered at 160 locations, with groundwater temperatures in the range between 20 and 111 °C. Korelacija magnetnog susceptibiliteta i sadržaja metala u flotacijskom jalovištu
High-resolution sequence stratigraphy of carbonates - theory and examples
Using gravity data to define structural correlation affecting the formation of Neogene basins
A gravity survey can help to define the structural correlation in the study area. The structures that have influenced the development of Neogene basins can be defined using gravity data. By applying mathematical transformations to gravity data, the geological structures (faults, nappes, etc.) that impacted the formation of Neogene basins can be defined. The mineralogical and granulometric analyses characterized sediments as quartz-rich clayey or sandy silts. Cyanobacterial diversity, colony morphology and grain stabilization were studied by light and scanning electron microscopy, which showed glue-like layers of cyanobacterial EPS and dense networks of filamentous cyanobacteria immobilizing finer and bigger grains, respectively. Amorphous, tuft and globular cyanobacterial colony structures were also detected. 15 cyanobacterial genera were ...Tamara Dulić, Jussi Meriluoto, Tamara Palanački Malešević, Violeta Gajić, Tamara Važić, Nada Tokodi, Igor Obreht, Bojan Kostić, Petar Kosijer, Farhad Khormali, Zorica Svirčev. Numerical Modeling and Simulation of the Effectiveness of Groundwater Source Protection Management Plans: Riverbank Filtration Case Study in Serbia
The paper describes the establishment and testing of an algorithm for developing sustainable management plans associated with groundwater source protection against potential pollutants and discusses the effectiveness of individual systems. The applied methodology pertains to groundwater resource management, particularly those cases that involve riverbank filtration. Namely, groundwater (numerical) modeling is employed to examine the groundwater regime and balance, as well as to create protection systems and illustrate their effectiveness.
