Reducing environmental impact caused by mining activities in limestone mines
Radmila Gaćina, Bojan Dimitrijević (2022)Mining and its related activities have always resulted in changes in the environment and these changes can vary from one area to another. As a result of mining, several types of changes can be distinguished: destruction of land and existing vegetation, changes in terrain topography, modification in air quality, changes in surface and groundwater quality, as well as change geotechnical conditions of the rock. Environmental impact of mining have been a public concern. There is widespread global interest in mining ...Radmila Gaćina, Bojan Dimitrijević. Environmental Noise Impact Assessment for Large-Scale Surface Mining Operations in Serbia
Noise emissions are a significant environmental impact caused by the mining industry in all technological phases of surface mining, mineral processing, and waste disposal. This paper presents the role of noise impact assessment and control in large-scale surface mining operations. Mine planning develops the model of mining operations, ore excavation, and waste dumping scheduling and processing rates, including spatial distribution of mining activities. Such a level of mine planning requires an environmental impact assessment study. This can be achieved ...Uros Pantelic, Petar Lilic, Aleksandar Cvjetic, Nikola Lilic. An Experimental Investigation of the Environmental Risk of a Metallurgical Waste Deposit
Jasmina Dedić , Jelena Djokic , Jovana Galjak, Gordana Milentijević, Dragan Lazarevic, Živče Šarkočević, Milena Lekić (2022)The aim of this study is to investigate the environmental risk of long-term metallurgical waste disposal. The investigated site was used for the open storage of lead and zinc waste materials originating from a lead smelter and refinery. Even after remediation was performed, the soil in the close vicinity of the metallurgical waste deposit was heavily loaded with heavy metals and arsenic. The pollutants were bound in various compounds in the form of sulfides, oxides, and chlorides, as well ...Jasmina Dedić , Jelena Djokic , Jovana Galjak, Gordana Milentijević, Dragan Lazarevic, Živče Šarkočević, Milena Lekić. Legal framework for recultivation of degraded areas caused by mining exploitation
Waste rocks and medieval slag as sources of environmental pollution in the area of the Pb-Zn Mine Rudnik (Serbia)
Alena Zdravković, Vladica Cvetković, Kristina Šarić, Aleksandar Pačevski, Aleksandra Rosić, Suzana Erić (2020)The new geochemical and mineralogical data of soil and water from the Pb-Zn Rudnik Mine area (central Serbia) reveal that the areas close to the mining sites and those located remotely from them are both affected by significant pollution by toxic elements, especially As, Pb, Ni and Cr. We, therefore, propose that two main sources are generally responsible for the current state of pollution in this area. The first is the material from waste rock dumps (WRDs) in which ...Alena Zdravković, Vladica Cvetković, Kristina Šarić, Aleksandar Pačevski, Aleksandra Rosić, Suzana Erić. Životić (2020)Self-heating of coal waste is a major problem in the leading coal-producing and consuming countries, independent of the recent or past coal exploitation history. The phenomenon of self-heating is dependent on many factors such as the properties of organic matter (maceral composition and rank), moisture and pyrite content, climate effects, and storage conditions (shape of the dump or compaction of the coal waste). Once deposited, coal waste undergoes oxidation, which can lead to self- heating with the overall temperatures ...M. Misz-Kennan, J. Kus, D. Flores, C. Avila, Z. Büçkün, N. Choudhury, K. Split-Desktop software for the analysis of fragment size distribution of blasted rock mass
The Fuzzy–AHP Synthesis Model for Energy Security Assessment of the Serbian Natural Gas Sector
Natural gas is used for the production of almost 20% of total energy today. The natural gas security of the Republic of Serbia is an urgent strategic, political and security issue.
