Coal production in open-pit lignite mines in the Republic of Serbia is performed with continuous work systems. In addition to coal production, the same systems are used for the exploitation of large quantities of overburden. According to the reliability concept, continuous systems are in linear connection. If the failure occurs in one part of the system, that will produce a downtime of the entire system. The initial and most important factor of continuous systems is the bucket-wheel excavator. It is characterized by continuous operation in various working conditions. Analysis of the bucket-wheel excavators' working, and maintenance parameters are of great importance. In this paper, two multi-criteria methods are used to compare the mentioned data, which are not mutually measurable by their nature. The analysis is conducted for two groups of bucket-wheel excavators, the oldest and the newest. In this way, it is possible to detect whether there is a significant difference that may propose the investment in the revitalization and modernization of machines.
