Fault type assessment based on vertical gravity gradient anomalies – advantages and limitations
The type of dip-slip faults can be assessed based on the analysis of vertical gravity gradients. Theoretically, just a simple comparation of the gradient extreme values can give us an answer whether the fault is normal or reverse (thrust). Practical application of this method is far more complicated and the results depend on a number of parameters, such as a complexity of geological setting, the quality of gravity data, dip angle and displacement of the fault, density contrast, etc. ...Ivana Vasiljević, Snežana Ignjatović, Branislav Sretković. The alternative to Mahler measure of polynomials in several variables
Dragan Stankov (2024)We introduce the ratio of the number of roots of a polynomial Pd, greater than one in modulus, to its degree d as an alternative to Mahler measure. We investigate some properties of the alternative. We generalise this definition for a polynomial in several variables using Cauchy’s argument principle. If a polynomial in two variables do not vanish on the torus we prove the theorem for the alternative which is analogous to the Boyd-Lawton limit formula for Mahler measure. ...Dragan Stankov. Application of MCDA in the determination of optimal block size for open-pit modelling and mine planning
The process of creating a geological block model as the basis for a further detailed design and planning of mining operations is a very responsible task. Errors made during this initial process are transferred to all other phases of the mining project. Certainly, one of the most important decisions for the modelling process is the choice of the appropriate size of the blocks that form the model itself. The determination of the optimal block size is not a simple ...dimenzije minibloka, višekriterijumska analiza, AHP, modeliranje ležišta, planiranje na površinskim kopovimaPetar Marković, Dejan Stevanović, Milica Pešić Georgiadis, Mirjana Banković. Towards more sustainable district heating systems in Serbia - Options and obstacles
The major share of energy consumed in the building environment is dedicated to meeting heating needs, which makes this sector one of the key players in the transformation of the whole energy system. The accurate approach to the transition process assumes acting on both the demand and supply sides. Lately, the supply side has received more attention, as its transformation is one of the key steps of the energy transition process. A Correlation Relating the Residual Strength Parameters to the Proportions of Clay Fractions and Plasticity Characteristics of Overburden Sediments from the Open-Pit Mine Drmno
Geochemistry of neutral mine drainage at sulfide deposits ‒ example of the „Grot“ Pb-Zn mine, South-Eastern Serbia
Koncentracije metala u ovim vodama (cinka, olova, barijuma, bakra i hroma) generalno su niske i većina uzoraka voda ispunjava kriterijume ...podzemne vode, kisele rudničke vode, hidrogeohemijski faktori, metali, PHREEQC modeliranje, indeks saturacijeSnežana Kretić, Jana Štrbački, Nebojša Atanacković. Recent advances made by reaction experiments on melting of heavily metasomatized hydrous mantle
Dejan Prelević, Michael W. Förster, Stephan Buhre, Fatma Gülmez, Tobias Grützner, Yu Wang, Stephen F. Foley (2024)Mantle-derived magmas are traditionally assumed to originate by melting of an upper mantle consisting of uniform spinel- or garnet peridotite dominated by olivine. However, extensive studies of mantle-derived basalts suggest that the mantle is more mineralogically heterogeneous, so that the genesis of even the most common magmas requires consideration of mixed source regions within the mantle involving pyroxenites and hydrous minerals. We refer to these with the group term metasomes. However, most experimental studies on mantle melting have assumed ...Dejan Prelević, Michael W. Investigating distant effects of the Moesian promontory: Brittle tectonics along the western boundary of the Getic unit (East Serbia)
In this study, we report evidence for brittle deformation in a part of the Carpatho–Balkan orogen, which is explained in terms of effects of the rigid Moesian promontory of the European plate on fault kinematics in East Serbia. We focus on the westernmost part of the Getic Unit of the East Serbian Carpatho–Balkanides, i.e. the Gornjak–Ravanica Unit, located between two main thrusts that were repeatedly activated from Early Cretaceous to recent times. We combine a new data set on ...Getikum, Mezijska jedinica, Karpato-balkanski orogen, krte deformacije, Gornjačko-ravanička jedinicaAna Mladenović, Milorad D. CC-PESTO: a novel GIS-based method for assessing the vulnerability of karst groundwater resources to the effects of climate change
The new GIS-based CC-PESTO method is shown to successfully assess and map the vulnerability/resilience of karst aquifers to effects of climate change. Karst aquifers were chosen due to their importance at the global level and widespread utilisation in potable water supply and irrigation, but also because of their hydrogeological complexity. The method was developed to assess the intrinsic vulnerability of aquifers, without considering the direct impact of variable climate factors, but considering the adaptive capacity of aquifers in response ...Zoran Stevanović, Veljko Marinović, Jelena Krstajić. Development and Application of Methodology for Quantification of Overbreaks in Hard Rock Tunnel Construction
A methodology for determining overbreaks in hard rock tunnel construction using the drill-and-blast technique is presented in this paper. The methodology was developed for and applied to crystalline medium- to thick-bedded limestone, but it can be used in any jointed hard rock mass. Overbreaks are inevitable in hard rock tunnelling in a low-confinement environment (shallow tunnels up to several hundred meters deep) as a result of wedge failures along unfavourably oriented discontinuities caused by blasting. It is widely accepted ...hard rock, drill-and-blast, geological overbreak, technological overbreak, stability criterion, discontinuity orientation, tunnel constructionZoran Berisavljević, Dragoljub Bajić, Vojkan Jovičić. Highway construction in fossil landslides zones – Lessons learned from the Grdelica Gorge, Serbia
Landslides are common on roads, which directly affect the flow of traffic and the connection and functioning of the population in surrounding area. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate them in the shortest possible time and to determine and carry out the remediation solution. Functionality of the state roads is immensely important so it is necessary to ensure that the traffic is maintained during remediation activities. Therefore, design solutions and remediation execution technology should be adapted to these requirements. ...Biljana Abolmasov, Marinos Skempas, Svetozar Milenković, Janko Radovanović, Miloš Marjanović. Properties of fly ash and slag from the power plants
This paper describes the physical, chemical and mineral properties of ash and slag, which were taken from thermal power plants Nikola Tesla A, Nikola Tesla B, Kostolac A and Kostolac B. The knowledge of the mineralogical material composition is important because the type of minerals directly determines the properties of the fly ash and slag and their possible application. Laboratory tests showed that ash and slag samples consist of the following minerals: amorphous materials, quartz, feldspar, mullite, melilite, cristobalite, ...fly ash, slag, physical composition, chemical composition, mineral composition, X-ray diffraction methodMiloš Šešlija, Aleksandra Rosić, Nebojša Radović, Milinko Vasić, Mitar Đogo, Milovan Jotić.
