Terminology Acquisition and Description Using Lexical Resources and Local Grammars
Acquisition of new terminology from specific domains and its adequate description within terminological dictionaries is a complex task, especially for languages that are morphologically complex such as Serbian. In this paper we present an approach to solving this task semi-automatically on basis of lexical resources and local grammars developed for Serbian. Special attention is given to automatic inflectional class prediction for simple adjectives and nouns and the use of syntactic graphs for extraction of Multi-Word Unit (MWU) candidates for ...Cvetana Krstev, Ranka Stanković, Ivan Obradović, Biljana Lazić. Knowledge and Rule-Based Diacritic Restoration in Serbian
In this paper we present a procedure for the restoration of diacritics in Serbian texts written using the degraded Latin alphabet. The procedure relies on the comprehensive lexical resources for Serbian: the morphological electronic dictionaries, the Corpus of Contemporary Serbian and local grammars. Dictionaries are used to identify possible candidates for the restoration, while the dataobtainedfromSrpKorandlocalgrammarsassistsinmakingadecisionbetween several candidates in cases of ambiguity. The evaluation results reveal that,dependingonthetext,accuracyrangesfrom95.03%to99.36%,whilethe precision (average 98.93%) is always higher than the recall (average 94.94%).Cvetana Krstev, Ranka Stanković, Duško Vitas. A necessary and sufficient condition for an algebraic integer to be a Salem number
Dragan Stankov (2019)We present a necessary and sufficient condition for a root greater than unity of a monic reciprocal polynomial of an even degree at least four, with integer coefficients, to be a Salem number. This condition requires that the minimal polynomial of some power of the algebraic integer has a linear coefficient that is relatively large. We also determine the probability that an arbitrary power of a Salem number, of certain small degrees, satisfies this condition.Algebraic integer, the house of algebraic integer, maximal modulus, reciprocal polynomial, primitive polynomial, Schinzel-Zassenhaus conjecture, Mahler measure, method of least squares, cyclotomic polynomialsDragan Stankov. Frequency and Length of Syllables in Serbian
Marija Radojičić, Biljana Lazić, Sebastijan Kaplar, Ranka Stanković, Ivan Obradović, Ján Mačutek, Lívia Leššová (2019)Basic analyses of several properties of syllables (the rank-frequency distribution, the distribution of length, and the relation between length and frequency) in Serbian is presented. The syllabification algorithm used combines the maximum onset principle and the sonority hierarchy. Results indicate that syllables behave similarly to words as far as mathematical models are concerned, but values of parameters in models for syllables are quite different from those for words.Marija Radojičić, Biljana Lazić, Sebastijan Kaplar, Ranka Stanković, Ivan Obradović, Ján Mačutek, Lívia Leššová. SrpELTeC on Platforms: Udaljeno čitanje, Aurora, NoSketch
Serbian ELTeC collection (100 novels and extended) developed within COST action CA16204 Distant Reading for European Literary History comprises at this moment 111 novels published in the period 1840-1920. Such a valuable resource is and will be used for various lexical and linguistic research, by using different tools and methodologies. In this paper, three platforms on which these novels are published will be presented: “Udaljeno ˇcitanje”, Aurora and Sketch Engine.Ranka Stanković, Mihailo Škorić, Petar Popović. An alternative to Mahler Measure of polynomials
Dragan Stankov (2024)We introduce the ratio of the number of roots of a polynomial Pd, greater than one in modulus, to its degree d as an alternative to Mahler measure. We investigate some properties of the limit ratio. We generalise this definition for a two variable polynomial P(x,y) using the Cauchy’s argument principle. We present an algorithm for calculating the limit ratio and a numerical method for its approximation. We estimated the limit ratio for some families of polynomials. Some examples ...Dragan Stankov.
