Late and post-collisional tectonic evolution of the Adria-Europe suture in the Vardar Zone
The Vardar Zone is a product of the Triassic-Jurassic opening of the Neotethys, Jurassic obduction, Late Cretaceous/Paleogene consumption of the oceanic crust and continental collision. During the last process, the Eastern Vardar Zone was thrust over the Central and eventually both onto the Western Vardar Zone. The present paleomagnetic and structural study provided new results from the first two zones in the Belgrade area. The younger set of data, together with published ones from the third zone, provide firm ...Emő Márton, Marinko Toljić, Vesna Cvetkov. Geoloski profil planine Avale (severna Šumadija) - uvid u litostratigrafiju i tektonske strukture
Mezozojske formacije Šumadije dele tektonsko-stratigrafsku evoluciju južnijih delova suture jedinica Adrijskog i Evropskog afiniteta, uključujući gornjojursku obdukciju, krednu subdukciju i paleogenu kontinentalnu koliziju. Finalni rezultat dugovremene evolucije u geodinamički složenom ambijentu su komplikovani tektonski i litostratigrafski odnosi različitih mezozojskih formacija suture. Geološki profil kroz planinu Avalu omogućava uvid u skoro potpunu sukcesiju mezozojskih formacija i prostorne pozicije i kinematiku značajnih tektonskih struktura najsevernijih segmenata suture u Šumadiji. Back-arc underplating provided crustal accretion affecting topography and sedimentation in the Adria microplate
Paolo Mancinelli, Vittorio Scisciani, Cristina Pauselli, Gérard M. Stampfli, Fabio Speranza, Ivana Vasiljević (2021)Supported by evidence of deep crustal sources for the observed magnetic anomalies in Central Italy and by outcropping gabbros in the Croatian archipelago, we model the observed gravity and magnetic anomalies in the Central Adriatic Sea and surroundings. We suggest that the major magnetic anomalies in the area are related to a wide underplating and propose that this volume represents the first stage of the back-arc Adria continental breakup in Early Permian times. During the Palaeotethys-Adria collision, underplating has ...Paolo Mancinelli, Vittorio Scisciani, Cristina Pauselli, Gérard M. Stampfli, Fabio Speranza, Ivana Vasiljević. U-Pb zircon geochronology of the Paleogene – Neogene volcanism in the NW Anatolia: Its implications for the Late Mesozoic-Cenozoic geodynamic evolution of the Aegean
E. Yalçın Ersoy, Cüneyt Akal, Ş. Can Genç, Osman Candan, Martin R. Palmer, Dejan Prelević, İbrahim Uysal, Regina Mertz-Kraus (2017)The northern Aegean region was shaped by subduction, obduction, collision, and post-collisional extension processes. Two areas in this region, the Rhodope-Thrace-Biga Peninsula to the west and Armutlu-Almacık-Nallıhan (the Central Sakarya) to the east, are characterized by extensive Eocene to Miocene post-collisional magmatic associations. We suggest that comparison of the Cenozoic magmatic events of these two regions may provide insights into the Late Mesozoic to Cenozoic tectonic evolution of the Aegean. With this aim, we present an improved Cenozoic stratigraphy ...E. Yalçın Ersoy, Cüneyt Akal, Ş. Can Genç, Osman Candan, Martin R. Palmer, Dejan Prelević, İbrahim Uysal, Regina Mertz-Kraus. Clockwise vertical-axis rotation in the West Vardar zone of Serbia: Tectonic implications
The Vardar-Tethyan mega-suture between the Eurasian and Adria (Gondwana) margins comprises remnants of oceanic lithosphere of Neotethys and distal parts of the adjacent continental margins including unconformable Late Cretaceous sedimentary cover and Cenozoic igneous rocks of post-obduction age. This study provides kinematic constraints for displacements and rotations affecting the Serbian part of the West Vardar and Jadar-Kopaonik units after the closure of the Neotethyan (= Sava) Ocean. The targets of the paleomagnetic research were Late Cretaceous sediments representing an ...... Vardar ophiolites located immediately west of the Sava suture (Fig. 1). The sampled Upper Cretaceous lithologies formed during the closure of the Sava Ocean, while the formation of the Cenozoic lithologies post-dated collision between Adria and Europe (Cvetković et al. 2016a). Towards resolving Cretaceous to Miocene kinematics of the Adria-Europe contact zone in reconstructions: Inferences from a structural study in a critical Dinarides area
One key element in the current debate analysing the Central Mediterranean evolution is the Cretaceous structure and kinematics of the present-day oroclinal bent contact between Adria-and Europe-derived continental units in the Dinarides, interpreted in different tectonic reconstructions as a subduction-related thrust system or a large-scale strike-slip fault zone. We provide a solution to the debate by a structural and kinematic study in a key area located in central Serbia along the Europe–Adria orogenic suture of the Sava Zone.
