Background There are two types of specifc sizes’ measurements. The frst is the measurement of energy consumption in a working technological process, and the second is the measurement of vibration, which is displayed over amplitudes of speed. There is an interplay between these two processes. Increasing the power consumption, the value of the vibration speed amplitudes increases. Purpose The process of the determination of machining parameters was based on minimizing the power consumption and vibration of the cutting tool, taking into account the path and depth of the cutting tool. There is need for a new methodology to extend the life of the cutting tool, which is an additional contribution of the developed methodology. From all the above, it is concluded that the creation of an appropriate analytical model makes a major step forward from existing scientifc knowledge.
Methods This study aims to create an analytical model that in the function of the cutting element state determines the dependence of energy consumption and bucket–wheel drive vibration. For this reason, two measurements were carried out: frst, when the wear of the cutting elements was 75% of the new tooth state, and second, with completely new teeth.
Results There is very little diference between the A/E (amplitude A and energy consumption E) ratio and expression (6), or 64 versus 69% (less than 10%). It follows that it is possible to use one or the other approach to determine the impact of tooth wear on the operation of the bucket–wheel drive. The outcome of this research is the development of an optimal vibro diagnostic approach to monitoring both the state and the behavior of the digger drive concerning the wear of the cutting elements. This creates space for increasing energy efciency in the mining sector.
Conclusions From the results obtained, the following recommendations are suggested for the researchers and basic mining machinery maintenance workers—that the state of cutting elements, which largely depends on the energy consumption and the vibration amplitude of the digging plant, should not be neglected when performing such measurements.
